Meeting of the Accreditation Committee Dec. 19, 2016 Attending: Herman Marshall, Brad Badgley, Bob Ferrara, Kim Hunter, Ernie Sabine, Jim Lattimer, Tom Yu, John Covert, Steve Carhart, Kayla Lemay, Liz Jason 1- BDF data privacy Tom suggested that IRB (institutional Review Board) policies could/should be followed, so as to ensure that data privacy can't be abrogated. Recruitment and retention numbers do involve individuals, whose privacy should be protected. John suggests that a meeting be dedicated to deciding the method for generating aggregating. The principles for data release would be developed and presented AILG subcommittees. Some concrete suggestions are 1- allow 30 day advanced notice to opt-out (to allow FSILG boards to review), 2- processes for anonymizing should be well defined. 2- Recent reviews AEPi - recommend accreditation AEPhi - ditto Theta Xi - Board approved the review team's report, which is now awaiting additional responses; it is expected that the report will go to Deans soon. Kayla attended PSK and PBPhi's reviews. 3- Upcoming reviews Twelve reviews are planned for spring. One group is to be reviewed that had reservations this term (Theta Xi); the others are on the usual 2-yr cycle 4- Annual report JC wants comments by 2 weeks before the next meeting; otherwise, he'll just prepare a new version and distribute to the committee. 5- Review process feedback The Accreditation process drives significant anxiety and tension about being examined; particularly with new officers and advisors. To relieve the anxiety, we can carry forward two actions: a- place static info on the web site explaining the process and goals and b- have Accreditation committee members help shepherd FSILGs before reviews. 6- AEPi support Their situation seems anomalous. The national has taken over the operations with non-local officers, alienating the local alumni, who feel frustrated. The FSILG office can help and has some leverage to push back on some issues. There is not much for the Accreditation Committee to do except to pass along the issue to the AILG Board. 7- Next meeting The next meeting is planned for Jan. 9, 2017 at 3PM.
