Facilities Committee Meeting October 24, 2018 8:00am FCI Office MIT Student Center W20-020 Attendees: Larry Stabile, Oscar Argueta, Pam Gannon, Patrick McCabe, Tom Stohlman, Brad Badgley, Scott Klemm, Dennis Collins, Bob Ferrara, Tom Holtey and by phone Peter Cooper The Ask memo to T. Sharon and S. Nelson needs to be prepared. Best if systemwide life safety program led by Dept of Facilities (DoF). Target launch by January 1. DoF will help develop better cost estimates for fire alarm and fire protection (sprinklers). Doors not in the ask at this time. Some not happy. Need study of each building egress, necessary doors, hardware, etc. Perhaps do a pilot. Look at MIT's work at 99 Bay State Rd. LCA might be a prototype brownstone. Moved, seconded and voted that Facilities Committee recommends developing estimated cost for fire alarm, sprinkler, egress/door function as viable community-wide projects. Proceed by having Steering Committee engage DoF. Suggested that this facilities committee have an increased role in accreditation, but not replace the accreditation process. Need to educate Corp Boards and undergrads about maintenance. Need to familiarize MIT with the SLI process. Tom Stohlman reported that most houses have inspection checklist complete. Still awaiting 6 houses. He has contacted House contacts for assessment project to make appointments. Maintaining master spreadsheet discussed. Need to define what we want, then ask for funding. Should warn AIL Board and plenary meeting that request is coming. NEXT MEETING NOVEMBER 7 at 8:00 am Notes by Peter Cooper
