AILG Facilities Committee Meeting Nov. 7, 2018 8:00 am at FCI Office MIT Student Center W20-020 Attendees: Larry Stabile, Scott Klemm, Tom Holtey, Patrick McCabe, Dennis Collins, Brad Badgley, Bob Ferrara, Tom Stohlman, Pam Gannon, Ernie Sabine, and by phone Peter Cooper Inspections; BSF Tom Stohlman reported 11 houses have CIs. 11 more have checklist complete. 2 have no checklist but good response. 2 are problematic: SAE (renting from AEPi) needs emergency lights and signage. Pi Lambda Phi consistently has obstacles in the egress path. Moved, seconded and voted that Facilities Committee Chair will notify AILG board, House Corporations and FSILG Office of the issues. Request that House Corps come up with a plan to address. Discussed how to motivate action. Suggested that event approval be withheld by FSILG Office. Cambridge houses not yet started. Facilities Assessment Program All house have report. Many are in contact with Tom S. Many are finding ARUP to be overly conservative regarding bedroom door ratings, door closers, magnetic hold openers which they rate as critical category 1. Also ARUP lack of historical preservation sensitivity. Scott, Tom S and Tom H will draft a letter to houses covering ARUP report. Facility Action Plans can indicate issues to be covered by community wide plan on fire alarm, fire protection and egress functionality. Tom Holtey is willing to share CP FAC for others to use as guidance. Pam indicated that short-term goal of steering committee is to get a cost estimator hired. Tony Sharon needs good cost estimates for FA, FP and egress functionality. MIT Dept of Facilities will hire the cost estimator. Larry has a draft RFQ for estimator. Pam will be issuing program update letter. Need input to Accreditation Process: questions to be added to questionnaire and added to interview like status of FAP. Need protocol for when citation is issued by inspector. BSF needs to know that citation exists. Explore getting a conference call service or WebX account to promote more participation in the Committee. NEXT MEETING NOV 28 Notes by Peter Cooper
